Do you own all the albums of any particular musical artist or group? Who?
Submitted by dutterman.
Oh boy, this is one hell of a question...especially since there are several ways to interpret it. Do we count only studio albums, or are we supposed to include live albums as well? How about remixes or EPs? And then what about bands that have only released one album? Surely they don't count. And then what about bands you collect obsessively, but you won't buy any albums of theirs from a specific era?
For the purposes of this post, I'll define "all albums" as studio albums only (no singles, no EPs), and exclude artists that have only released one or two albums (which means that Blackfield, LCD Soundsystem, Gruff Rhys, and others would have to be excluded).
Here's the list:
Richard Ashcroft
Björk
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Kate Bush
Stephen Malkmus
Opeth
Pavement
Porcupine Tree
Radiohead
Super Furry Animals (okay, I don't have Hey Venus yet, but it just came out earlier this week and won't be released in the US until next year, so give me a few weeks to scrape up the cash for the vinyl...there's too many things coming out right now that I need)
The Verve
The White Stripes
When driving alone, what do you do? Sing along to the radio? Think about your day? Something else?
Submitted by carapiccoladiva.
When I'm alone in my car, I stick a CD in the stereo and crank the volume up (but not too loud...six and a half bars usually suffices...I do care about my hearing). Because of how fussy I am about the condition of my CDs, I burn copies for the car (sourced from FLAC files of paranoia-mode rips from the real CDs that I keep on my hard drive) of what I want to listen to.
So what albums do I have copies of in my car right now? Here goes:
Pretty strange mix of stuff, I'd say (perhaps a bit too Steven Wilson-centric, but what can I say, I'm a fanatic).
P.S. If anyone can tell me how on earth I get items that are on different pages in my audio section to appear in one box without having to put them in a collection, I'd appreciate it. Certainly there's got to be an easier method than removing them from my audio section and adding them back so they're all on the same page.
What celebrity do you most often get told you resemble?
Submitted by Leets.
I haven't really had anyone come up to me and tell me I resembled a celebrity in a long time. Last time I recall people telling me I resembled anyone was in middle school (i.e the late nineties), when people would constantly tell me I looked like Claire Danes. I don't think it's that close of a resemblance...sure, my face is round, but I don't have a cleft chin.
I've made jokes about my hair doing Kate Bush impressions recently (i.e when my long wavy/curly hair decides it wants to really poof out), but unfortunately I'm not around people informed enough to know who she is.
People do many different things to cope with stress, loss, and "bumps in the road". How do you handle stress and hard times?
Submitted by RedlyGal.
In all honesty, not very well. I usually just deal with a stressful situation by ignoring it, which isn't really dealing with it at all. Needless to say, when things get to the point where I can't ignore them, I completely break down. Sure, spending some time alone (and perhaps listening to music, reading a book, or something similar) helps a bit, but then I get to that point where I feel like I need to talk to someone about it and hit a roadblock. The problem is that I really don't have anyone I can talk to about my problems--the people I know are either completely unreceptive or else they're people I don't want to share my problems with for various reasons (distrust, they're part of the problem, or I'm afraid of how they'd react). I guess my problem is that I have a difficult time making (and keeping) quality friends...you know, the ones that are there for the bad times as well as the good...real friends, not acquaintances who are only interested when you're having fun.
It's borderline miraculous that I've made it through the past few weeks...I mean, I've had to spend most of it out in the living room because of that water heater accident trashing my bedroom. During this time, I didn't have a private space to retreat to when I needed it...I'm surprised I didn't lash out more often than I did. For that matter, I didn't get much quality sleep when I was out in the living room...our four cats just wouldn't leave me alone. I'm certainly glad that my room is finished and I got to move my things back into it this weekend, although I won't get to appreciate it for very long, since I've only got three weeks before I move into the dorms to start classes this fall. Hopefully, I'll find a quality friend or two this fall and get my life back in order this fall. If nothing else, at least I've got tickets for the Porcupine Tree shows in Houston and Dallas (high time they came back to Texas!).
How many email addresses do you have? What are they for?
Submitted by clippedwings.
I've had countless e-mail accounts...don't even want to think about how many Hotmail accounts I've had (and abandoned), but right now I'm using only two Yahoo e-mails (actually it's one account with two addresses attached to it) and my school e-mail just got activated.
I've also got an account through our ISP, but I don't really use it, especially since I started getting someone else's PTA-related e-mails...they don't seem to understand that their 'sellis' has a number in her e-mail, whereas I do. Considering how active this person appears to be with her kids' school, you think the other parents would eventually realize that they've been sending their e-mails to the wrong address, but it's been going on for over a year now. I'm halfway tempted to send them e-mails back pretending to be her and mess with their heads a bit (i.e. make them show up at the wrong time and/or place for their events)...they've got to learn it's not her e-mail address.
What's the best practical joke you've pulled or had pulled on you?

Now this is a QotD right up my alley...I've even got pictures of this one. Anyway, back in 1999 (it was the last day of my freshman year), my father had an idea to play a prank on one of his coworkers who got paranoid about people taking small supplies from her (pens, etc.), so this lady had tied a few pens to her cubicle. My father decided that we'd tie everything in this lady's cube down with string, so we went to his office late at night (when no one was in) to do the prank. I've heard his coworkers never did figure out that we were the ones who did it.

Are there any podcasts that you never miss an episode of?
Submitted by Kadeeae.
I've never listened to podcasts on a regular basis. That being said, I have been keeping up with Punk Sanderson's video blog, The Vicar Chronicles...if you close your eyes and just listen, it would be a podcast. He's pretty good at doing voices (especially the accent he uses for the Vicar)...if he ever gets tired of being the Vicar's assistant engineer and can't become a rockstar, certainly he could get a job doing voices for cartoons!
Do you consider yourself a patriotic person? Why or why not?
If this country still stood for what the founding fathers intended (i.e. freedom, liberty, independence), I'd be patriotic. But instead, this country is moving closer and closer to becoming a police state, religion is becoming more and more intertwined with the State*, and we're going around bullying other countries. I just can't bring myself to stand for where this country is right now. Actually, now that I think about it, perhaps the dissenters are the true patriots...well at least the dissenters who remember what this country is supposed to stand for.
*I hate those people who go on about how this country was built on Christian values...the founding fathers were Deists for the most part, not Christians. There is a profound difference between the two.
Tell us a true story that proves it really is a small world after all.
Submitted by havybeaks.
It really is a small world...first great example was when I was going through the New Cadet Orientation session just before starting my first year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. We had a session where we introduced ourselves and said where we were from. One girl said she was from Georgetown (Texas), and I'm thinking "Hey, that's just to the north of Round Rock!" Of course, we became friends right away. I find it pretty funny that I had to go to Nebraska to meet someone from the town just to the north of mine in the Austin metro.
Of course, there are other examples...one of my cousins that I haven't seen in about 12-15 years or more called me up on Sunday and it sounds like he wants to come see us sometime soon. And then I just got back into Facebook after leaving my account inactive for over two years (you wouldn't believe how many e-mails it took to support last week to get me back into my old account). It was pretty nice to see friend requests from people I haven't seen in years--some of them were people I haven't seen since high school! Not to mention that Lauren had posted the hilarious photos of me chugging a bottle of root beer (it looks like beer, but it wasn't...I was only 20 when that photo was taken)--I thought I would never get to see those pictures!
How often are you wrong? Do you find it difficult to admit it when you are?
Submitted by emily ann.
Not too often, and when I am wrong, it's usually due to a lack of good information. ;)
